I had to pull my strengh very hard to publish this.. the first trial for painting these flowers is a total disaster, I made one deadly but tempting mistake is to put a lot of colors, result is FAILURE :), I tried to choose colors from my imagination...I think this time I will search for real Hollyhocks pictures on the internet and try to be inspired. I promise not to laugh! I tried a holly hock painting a few years ago. I was doing it from a picture and was trying to make it a real shadow and light painting. It was a complete disaster! the colors were too strong and it just didn't work. When I saw your drawing of holly hocks I was anxiously awaiting the painting. Don't despair! We all have struggles. Keep working on it, or go to something else and come back to the hollyhocks when you have had a chance to get your mind off of it for awhile.
I have been struggling with writing a blog post about a color chart I did. It seems so simple, but to explain it all makes it that much more difficult for me. Sigh
Good Luck!
Sara
Thanx Sara, I think I am going to do as you say... I'll just get it off my mind :) for a while.
Actually I didn't know that painting flowers was as difficult as that WOW !!!
This painting is LOVELY! :)
Do you know what? I admire ARTISTS a lot :) I think it's great what you painters do: to make things beautiful by painting them, touching people's feelings...

That paint by Vermeer is my favourite one too! It amazed me the first time I saw it!
How that girl stares at you and you can do nothing but admire her beauty...

Do you know Tennessee Williams? He's my favourite playwright, and I'm in love with one of the books he wrote: "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof".
Sobre un tejado de zinc = On a hot tin roof
La gata de Tennessee = Tennessess' catwoman

You've got to be kidding! This is wonderful! Lots of artists try to make exquisite neutrals such as those you've created And your negative shapes are very strong! Anybody can paint the way things 'look.' Well, not anybody, but you know what I mean. This is a very personal, strong watercolor sketch.
I do not know at how many times I had done this myself on some of my paintings when I felt I had messed up on the picture, then I find I can not go any futher with it and so I too also put it to one side and work on something else then come back to it later to work on it more. I have had this one painting of a Victorian house that I have been working on for many long months, one of these days it will get finished once I figure out how to undo my mess up.
Thanx Elenaberenice for the nice comment, well I am not an artist yet :) I am just a beginner.
Yes Vermeer's painting is just AMAZING the girl's look just hypnotise me. Its really a beauty.
Oh and thanx for the translation :)
Laureline
Thanx to your comments, I am not frustrated any more....when I took a look on your recent post I saw your ink an wash sketches..i'll be inspired to do the same concept, just letting go of my pen and brush....and paint what I see :)
thanx for the support
Rosy, you can't imagine how frustrated I was that I messed up this painting, I guess I must control myself :) Its very difficult also to undo a mess in watercolors !!!
Flowers must be one of the most difficult things on earth to paint. See my Age of Flowers.
But more, see my post on Failure today on My Great Day.
Hi Doudy. I agree with Lareline that beautiful, interesting neutrals are very hard to achieve, but you've done it in your lovely, freestyle background! And it's true flowers are a difficult subject--I find I have some success with some (like sunflowers or tulips), not so much with others (like peonies or lilacs). It's inspiring to see how you approach your artwork!
Don't despair! They say we learn more from our failures than from our successes. Although that doesn't make me happy about my failures, it's probably true. Having said that, I don't see this as a failure. Perhaps it wasn't what you had in mind, but those neutrals in the background are really beautiful. I especially admire how that bluish purplish gray bleeds into the darker area on the left of the flower.
well I think it's pretty nice, very delicate.

Laura,
Yeap, I guess I should try other various kinds of flowers first, before I despair :)
Thanx Mineke, very encouraging words.... I'll explore more and more flowers...Actually its good to know that flowers are very difficult to paint.
Thanx Sandy,
I checked your Blog, and I like it very much, your Mona is very nice.
I put your link on my Blog this way I'll take peacks often.

Thanks for the link, I'll link you too! By the way, Corel is like Photoshop, Corel Paintshop Pro X is what I use....

Oh doudy, never despair! It may not have turned out as you would have liked, but it is not a failure. Look at those beautiful colors you have there in the background. Flowers are so difficult. I haven't the nerve to post any of my terrible flower drawings.
I'm so glad that you posted the picture though. You got some good advice and found that it wasn't a bad as you thought. Isn't blogging great!
Thanx Genxster,
Yeap I don't believe that this painting will be appreciated this much by anyone... So YEAH BLOGGING is GREAT :) i gives me support to continue
